The Birth of SÜLgear

Hi everyone, I'm Scott Goodwin, the creator of SÜLgear based in Hattiesburg, MS.

Necessity sparked the Adventure Wallet, demand fueled the Passport Wallet, and frustration enabled the Tarp Nut (patent pending). Let me tell you the stories behind it all.

As an avid outdoorsman, I spend a lot of time long-distance hiking, motorcycle touring, and adventuring.

All while hammock camping.

The constant fear of losing my wallet on these adventures prompted me to brainstorm a more secure solution for carrying essentials while on the move.

Unfortunately, the idea for an "Adventure Wallet" faded once I returned to civilization.

Fast forward a year or so, I found myself on a motorcycle trip. To my horror, my wallet fell out of my tank bag leaving me stranded with no cash, cards or ID.

This experience solidified my need for a secure way to carry essentials while traveling. Despite a relentless search, I couldn't find anything that met my requirements.

It needed to be wearable, ultra light, strong and durable, minimalist, and weather-proof.

As a seasoned long-distance hiker, I was familiar with an exceptional fabric called Dyneema Composite Fabric – ultralight, ultra-strong, and waterproof. Armed with this knowledge, I procured the fabric and embarked on designing the perfect "Adventure Wallet." After countless iterations over a year, I finally achieved my vision.

Extensive testing involved using the wallet daily as my sole wallet. Here's the surprising outcome: people loved it! They were constantly asking questions and wanting to know where they could get one.

While I initially designed the Adventure Wallet for secure travel use, the overwhelming demand for everyday use was clear. Interestingly enough, I haven't used a traditional wallet since – my Adventure Wallet is my go-to.

Following the success of the Adventure Wallet, requests for a passport-sized version began pouring in. Thus, the SÜLgear Passport Wallet was born.

A better way to hang a tarp.

I've spent countless nights sleeping outdoors in a hammock. Over a decade, I've experimented with every method known for hanging a tarp over a hammock.

This includes, but not limited to, continuous ridgelines, split ridgelines, loop aliens, Dutch wasps, nama claws, tactical toggles, prussik knots, etc.

While all these work, I wanted something very specific.

It needed to be a split ridgeline, ultra light, knot-free, metal-free, extremely durable, and more efficient than anything else.

My nuts were the answer.

Tarp Nuts (patent pending) are the secret sauce for achieving my goal.

Like my wallets, I spent a crazy amount of time and effort iterating and testing until I created what I consider perfection.

The SÜLgear Split Ridgeline System fulfilled my requirements and offered me the ability to suspend, center, and secure my tarp over my hammock on the first try, in mere seconds, every single time.

Exactly what I wanted!

I now offer it to you, should you want the same.
